Deb at Freelance Writing Thoughts mentioned Blog World and New Media Expo going on right here in my humble little town of
I’ve been to trade shows before but never under the banner of my own company, so that’s pretty cool. If James were here, he and I probably would’ve joined in on the opening night party at the Hard Rock. He isn’t, so I won’t.
That’s the thing I love about this town. There’s always something happening and I don’t have to drive for hours to get there. The Las Vegas Convention Center is only fifteen minutes from my home (less if there’s no traffic). Parking is never a problem when I’m riding the bike, either.
Right next to the Convention Center is the Las Vegas Hilton, home to the Star Trek Experience for all you Trekkie fans out there.
If you’re not a Trek fan, Quark’s restaurant has fantastic food. It might seem pricey at first glance, but portions are worth it.
If you have extra time between seminars or planned an extra day or two for sightseeing, get a pass for the monorail. The monorail takes you from the Hilton to the MGM Grand at the other end of the Boulevard (aka “The Strip”). It stops at each hotel along the way.
Walking or taking the monorail is the easiest way to get around town. If you have a rental car, parking is free at all the casinos.
Tomorrow I’ll follow-up on my experience at the Expo. Thanks again for the info, Deb!

Something else – if you’re in town for Blog Expo, invest in a monorail pass – I have a three days pass. It’s much cheaper and quicker than cabs.
Did I forget to mention that? Nope, it’s there. But you’re right Deb, it’s definitely a cheap and easy way to get around. Are you having fun yet, or completely overwhelmed by everything?
Now I’m envious! You get to go and I don’t. It’s just not fair …
(Some people live in all the right places.)
That’s okay, Laura, I’ll take some pics and write up a good post for you! I’m sure Jamie is just as envious – you’re in good company.
We went to the Star Trek Experience on my honeymoon because, well, I married a total geek. I think I had more fun than he did.
You can’t help but have fun with the Experience, I know I did the first time I went…and the second time too. But I’m not a geek! *tries his best to look innocent*
Ahhh you did mention it. That’s what I get for scanning!
Oh, don’t worry, I do the same thing from time to time.
