I don't think that Blogger is as limited as people think, it just requires effort to make it look professional (I've seen Blogger blogs that would blow you away...). You can get multi-sidebar themes and widgets that look good, but they take a little looking, some trial and error, and possibly a little CSS.

This is great! I'm new to your site and I'm also fond of "pulling the trigger" on bad designs (publically, ok, I'm a bit of an attention... uh... seeker). But your narrative made it so much more.

The only issue I have with your post is... Creamsicles are actually delicious! ;) I think you done Creamsicles wrong, James.

Cheers,

Amy

Wow, that was brutal! Necessary, but brutal. Having been to Detroit, I can say it's pretty gray. Gray sky, gray buildings, gray snow. Why not a gray theme? ;-)

@ Mark - Tags are (to me) just another fancy way of categorizing posts. I think if there was a selection of proper, organized categories in the sidebar, then people would be able to explore and read without having that visual clutter in the content area.

I agree with you on WP having more options than Blogger, even with the free version still being less flexible than self-hosted. There's more space, better template options and more features available.

Cheers!

A good review, as usual, and I agree with your assessment of the restrictions on Google's blogger. A better choice of a free blogger in my opinion would be wordpress.com . Wordpress.com still has it's restrictions and limitations but not to the same extent as Blogger and it does offer premium services for a fee if the free version isn't adequate.
A question here regarding the following statement from this post - "Remove the tags – while purists will scream at that suggestion, we just think it’s extra clutter." I'm not a purist but I would think that a tag would be helpful to the reader if they wanted to explore/read other posts by the blogger on the same subject.
