I got a 10 hr. a week job almost right out of the box. You're really right about watching what you bid on. I've gotten caught badly in about 4 bids now and it's all about the Buyer. All but one of my feedbacks are 100% recommended. I've made close to $5000 since July--not good enough as I need to get around $1000 a month. Not leaving Elance, even though I've felt they have some odd features, I think they're probably the best out there, but you have to be tough and driving. Thanks for the article. It gets frustrating placing tons and tons of bids on Elance, but at the end of the day, I make my living off that site. It's allowed me a level of freedom I wouldn't get with any other job, and I've actually met some of my clients in real life. I believe their unique selling point is the: security and accountability, both for clients and buyers. Unlike craigslist, I can see if a buyer isn't worth it long before sending in my proposal. That means much less time wasted, even if I'm still wading through the crap. So true.
