		<description>Your emphasis on theme is spot on. I&#039;m glad you mentioned Michael Conelly because he has that all too rare balance between ability to maintain a theme while allowing a story to be complexly plotted and fast-paced.

I&#039;m an avid mystery reader with several favorite series. The series which I keep coming back to are ones where characters are fully developed; part of that development is reflected in their life themes, which are elaborated as the stories are told.

I recall learning writing as a boy in school, and never being able to relate to what the teachers meant by theme. Now, 45 years later, it seems like a no-brainer.

Thanks for an enjoyable discussion on theme.
