The Internet is rampant with opportunity for people to start their own business. Those who never thought they’d leave the nine-to-five grind of a boring office job are realizing the potential offered by the virtual world. Freelancers and businesses are cropping up left, right and center – and doing very well, thank you very much.
Could they be doing more?
Add-on services are the new rage for online entrepreneurs these days. People love convenience, so finding a freelancer that not only offers one great service, but two, three or even four additional services means the perfect one-stop shop for clients.
If you’re a freelancer, you probably have plenty of potential add-on services to offer. Add-ons may even pay more than your main line of work. Here are some ideas to get started:
Look back on your work history and experience. Make a list of your positions or jobs. Did you ever carry out accounting? Could you transcript recordings? Have you ever managed a department? Past experience and skills can be turned into great add-on services to offer clients.
Figure out the demand – and supply it. If you frequent websites that match freelancers with projects, pay attention to what buyers are looking for – especially projects that you don’t normally carry out. Is everyone looking for a new logo these days? Are people searching hard for start-up consultation and advice? Offering a new service that meets demand is a smart strategy for increasing profits.
Learn a new skill. You may have plenty of knowledge or education in one field of expertise. Why not expand your skills? If business planning has always interested you, and there is a demand for this service, tap into the opportunity. Take courses, research, and become an expert – you might enjoy providing this new service better than taking on jobs in your usual line of work!
Buddy up. Maybe you don’t feel like learning something new or doubling up your workload. You might be the kind of person who enjoys focusing on one skill set only. Master of one, not jack of all trades, right? Find an individual or business that does provide the services buyers are seeking, and then outsource your clients’ needs.
The virtual world moves fast – really fast. Potential gigs come and go like lightening. For many freelancers, getting work is like trying to catch a thunderbolt while it passes.
By building up your business a little more, expanding on your current services with add-ons, you may find that your reputation as a one-stop shop gains you more work. Once word gets out about the new services you offer in addition to the great work you already provide, your schedule might start to fill up fast.
