I didn’t start out thinking I’d become a problogger. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever consider having that title pinned onto me. Neither did James.
We both sort of fell into the business. Our blog began as nothing more than a means of attracting clients and sharing our expertise. Looking back through older posts in our archives, I easily see where we were trying to gain our footing on our tone and online personality.
These days, I often wonder if we’re deviating from the business of writing, getting too caught up in that wonderfully warm current of sociability. Are we losing sight of what we’re supposed to be doing?
Then again, what are we supposed to be doing?
Anything goes with blogging, really. There are no hard rules to follow. Like a well-played guitar solo, we veer off the mark with some fancy finger-picking, and we always manage to come back to the point to tie it all in together for a great song.
I used to hate blogging – and with a passion. James constantly prodded me to write a post. I’d do so grudgingly. Somewhere along the way, I found the confidence I needed to write some good stuff. I know I’m not always the incredibly charismatic, witty individual I’d like to be, but I’ve had my moments in the sun.
I like what we’ve done here. I like the sense of community we’ve built. I like the contact with people who’ve dropped by, who’ve stayed.
For a while, Jamie and I went through a period where our work wasn’t fun anymore. Let me tell you, that tune has changed – thanks to all of you.
Yeah, it’s raining out here in the desert, and I’m waxing sentimental again. It happens. Just be grateful that I’m not calling for a group hug.

It’s pretty cool how blogs and community go hand in hand. I approach the whole thing a little differently than you — I love blogging and I would love nothing more than to become a full time pro blogger. What a great career! Still, I had no idea how rewarding it would be and every day I’m excited by new discoveries and people here in the blogosphere. What a great time to be alive!

Writing Forward
If that’s the case, you have the perfect attitude for a writer! Just last night I was reading more of Jurgen Wolff’s book, “Your Writing Coach” and one line in particular struck me:
“If you are a writer, or want to be, it’s highly likely you are excited by life and find things fascinating that other people find boring simply because they don’t look deep enough.”
What better place to look deeper than within ourselves?
I told myself that I would ‘never’ blog; that was the wrong thing to do; say ‘never’. I always thought how ridiculous it must be to write about some of things I write about. Currently my blog is purely personal in nature; dealing with family, friends and sometimes my adventures in writing or trying to work from home.
I am hopefully developing a couple of other blogs, but they will take time to get up and running between article writing and searching for more writing gigs.
I for one am glad that James pushed you to blog; both of you are great to read!
