How to Blog to Drive Traffic
Every now and then, something happens that makes me realize how much knowledge I do possess – and that plenty of people still have questions about how to use blogging to drive traffic.
Here are my suggestions for blogging to boost hits to your site:
- Be active. Comment on other blogs. Say what you have to say. Other people read your comments, and if they’re good, interesting ones, those people often wander over to your blog to see what else you have to say.
- Link back to your site. Add links to your comments if your posts offer relevant information or different angles of perspective on the subject.
- Link out to other blogs. When you write a post that links out, a trackback shows up in that blog’s comments. Trackbacks catch attention. The blog owner and readers might click through to read what you posted.
- Linking also helps search-engine crawlers find your site, which helps increase your page rank.
- Comment in a way that increases your credibility and establishes your expertise. A good comment adds to the discussion. Offer more information for readers or spin an interesting take on the discussion.
- Read other people’s blogs to get new ideas for your own blog posts. Write something creative or explore a different angle or perspective. Expand on someone’s post or comments.
- Stay updated and in the loop. If you’re posting about bananas while everyone else is discussing apples, you won’t get much traffic. Write about current trends or hot topics.
- Read to learn. Gain knowledge about new concepts or strategies being discussed in the blogosphere. Improve yourself.
Blogging for traffic does take time and effort. Get a feed reader. They’re simple and easy to use. It takes less than five minutes to add your favorite blogs and start reading.
Using a feed reader saves you the time and trouble of bookmarking favorite blogs and wandering around. It’s faster and smarter to have a central location to all your favorite blog posts. Quickly skim through headlines, read the posts that snag your attention, and hop over to blogs to comment within seconds.
A feed reader also lets you mark specific posts so you can move on to something else and come back to the post quickly and easily without fumbling around to find the content in question.
Happy blogging!
