For me bribes don't work because I know they are self-imposed and therefore meaningless. My typical motivation is to get stuff done a little FASTER so that I'll have time to do something I really enjoy - like reading a little bit of a novel (at the moment, anything by Neil Gaiman), going for a walk, or even just cruising aimlessly around the Social web leaving comments about how I have to bribe myself to get my work done.
