Interview with James and Harry: More About the Men with Pens

We’re all curious people. We love knowing more about others, what they do, why they do it, and how they do it. We’re voyeurs no matter which way we cut it. We’re asked quite a few personal questions here at Men with Pens – and we do our best to answer them. Stephen Hopson from Adversity University recently interviewed us and ask us to share more about ourselves with readers. We gave our most thoughtful answers – or tried to. Read up on Stephen’s Two-Part Interview with the Men with Pens and indulge your voyeuristic tendencies. We promise it’s safe for viewing at the office.

  1. Harry and James:

The first part was FUN! As you can see, I finally managed to download the images you two gave me along with the blog’s logo. It was a bit of a struggle but after downloading Firefox for the first time (ever – I had been a loyal IE user), somehow WP allowed me to insert images into my blog. Whew.

Hope your readers enjoy the interview!

Here is what I know about the Men with Pens: you are awesome.

I believe CommentLuv is about to tell you I have written a brief post on this topic.

Thanks for being these supportive, inspiring, awesome folk who wield a good pen and give great advice. I’m very pleased to have found this little community over which you reign, all benevolent-monarch-like. It makes me happy. Right here. In my elbow.

@ Tei – We have secret ways to know that your post went up exactly two seconds after you hit publish, and both Harry and I have been over to read. I’ll be leaving a comment there in the morning as well.

That was the highest compliment ever. THAT is what I want to do with this site. Provoke change for the better – and I’m glad that everyone here rose to the occasion easily. We have a very good crowd and a unique one on the Internet.

I wouldn’t trade it for the world… and welcome to our gang :)

Thank you. You accomplish it very well – little ol’ newbie me even figured it out. I think I shall reside here for some while. I am going to make it my secret little mission to become one of those ten people who comments most often.

And by ‘comment’ we mean ‘beg for advice.’

Yes we do. We and our third person.

  7. @Tei: You don’t have to beg. Your post was touching, thank you.

@Jenny: Interviews are the fun part of the job. Gives us a chance to touch on things we might not normally get a chance to.

@DAVE! *evil chuckle* So, you’ve succumbed to the wiles of Twitter too, haven’t you?

@Stephen: Thanks for the interview, we had a blast with it.

  8. Gary says:

Hi, Call me curious, even voyeuristic if you like, but I didn’t see my burning question answered. Just what is that nice looking (Takamine?) guitar in the photo? And is it your guitar, James?

  9. James says:

@ Gary – That one isn’t mine, no, but I think you’re right on Takamine – I never checked.

Mine is a beautiful (and affordable!) Yamaha FG720S and it looks identical to this one:

Sounds sweet as hell. My next guitar will be black. Taylor would be nice.

  10. Harry and James:

Not only did I also have a blast with the interview, my readers also enjoyed it! In fact, many of them came over to your site to check you guys out. I’m always happy when that happens!

Can’t wait to air the second part next week!

P.S. What plug-in are you using to highlight the author comment boxes?

  11. Gary says:

James, Nice guitar. I have a Yamaha, too, and am very satisfied with its great sound and looks. Watch out for the finger prints on that black guitar, though!

Thanks to you both for all your great insights.
    Regards,
    Gary

  12. James says:

@ Gary – I have a friend who is a major, major player and has about 14 guitars, the sum total value of which would buy my duplex about three times over, and every single time he picks up my Yam, he sighs. Very sweet sound.

As for fingerprints… I have a toddler. My guitar ain’t the shiniest thing on the block some days :)

  13. @Gary: I’m an Ovation kind of guy myself. Had a 12 string once and I wish I still had it today.

  14. Gary says:

@James: For the toddler, try a ukulele. Its cheap, easier to play, and keeps them off your guitar a little. As a bonus you can play wicked dissonant duos together ;-)

@Harry: An Ovation kind of guy? Does that mean you have concave thighs? :-) Seriously, I like the sound of Ovations I’ve heard, but I can never get that bowl shape to stay on my lap while I play.

    Keep up the great posts.
    Regards,
    Gary

  15. @Gary: No, but I do find the rounded, thinner body much more comfortable than the hard corners.
