The complaints have been rolling in at the Water Cooler. Remember, too, that for each person who speaks up, 10 other individuals feel the same way but say nothing. Writers en masse are ready to revolt. Many are quitting. Some already have. The possibility of a writer strike on Elance has been mentioned.
Does Elance care?
Many thought no. Elance tripled writer rates and spent two days soothing bristling nerves and outraged writers, encouraging them to just hold on, wait and see.
Jon Diller of Elance wrote, “We know changing our membership plans is disruptive and sincerely appreciate your patience during this time of transition – our goal is to make Elance a better and safer place to do business.”
He also asked that writers “let the dust settle.” I think Jon hoped the problem would go away – or maybe he’s scrambling for solutions. He’s been dead silent on the forum boards for about 24 hours now… and silence is what the rest of the Elance team is, as well.
But it seems there’s hope. Today, Cathy Siciliano of Elance posted a forum message as follows:
“We know you’re unhappy with some of the recent changes to the membership structure. We’ve read everything you have written, and are listening to all of your feedback, concerns and issues.
I wanted to let you know that we are presently discussing how to incorporate some of your feedback, and will announce changes to the entire Elance community this week.”
I’m interested to see what those changes will be – the last change Elance made wasn’t the best for writers.
