  2. Woo hoo!

On a side note, I nearly fell over when I saw a MwP post in my feed reader just now. “Waitaminute, what? I thought they take Saturdays off? What’s going on? Huh?”

Not that I mind of course… but it did surprise me. :D

  3. Congratulations, that is exciting. It’s also great that you don’t focus on keywords. Writing is a lot more natural without such silly (though sometimes necessary) things to think about.

  6. @ Joel and Allison – I’d be remiss in indulging my own personality if I didn’t do the unexpected.

Oh. And crow about accomplishments ;)

  7. @James – Ah yes, very true.

  9. @ James. I have absolutely no clue what your post means. But I can tell it’s a good thing, whatever a PR5 is! So yayyy! And thank you for thanking us. It goes both ways, dude: we wouldn’t be here without you guys being you. :)

  11. You’re welcome. I was on the phone with Google yelling at them about you guys for HOURS, trying to convince them how much you should be this “PR5″ thing, and they finally caved, but after I got off the phone I discovered that I had missed my bus and was late for work and consequently had been fired, so now we’re going to get kicked out of our rental and starve, but HEY.. you’re a PR5!

  15. Congrats. Here are my hugs to both of you.

So how does a blog earn higher ranking? I agree with your point that PR is not the objective, it’s a reward, but I’m curious.

Holy shit. What a good sign of how awesome you guys are. Good job!

  17. James you prompted me to look at mine and I’ve gone from 4 to 5 too. My ego has taken over and is going on a self-congratulating rampage.

Quick somebody call Eckert Tolle to drag me back down to earth before I bask in the sweet smell of success for too long.

Now if I had some clients too, that really would be something else ;-)

  19. I’d like to also add that our gaming blog and forums, Capturing Fantasy and Escaping Reality each have a PR of 3 after only a few short months.

  20. I don’t pay much attention to SEO either, but it still leaves a warm fuzzy feeling inside when you see that bit of green go up :)

    Congratulations! It’s definitely well deserved.

  21. Congratulations!!! A PR 5 is AWESOME!!!

As for what PR is, PR is a numerical way for Google to express how “important” they think a site is.

A blog earns a PR ranking by achieving incoming links from other websites. Links from sites with a PR 5 are “worth” more in the calculations than incoming links from PR 1 sites.

The fact that this blog has moved up to a PR 5 is totally AWESOME and a sign of the hard work that James does day in and day out!!! (I swear, I see him commenting EVERYWHERE I go!)

James Brown may be the hardest working man in showbiz, but James Chartrand may well be the hardest working blogger on the internet!!! Again, congrats!!!!

  22. *beams*

Well, the algorithms and calculations involve a little more than that, but yeah, inbound links are part of the math that Google uses. It’s not a linear process by any means.

And I suck in math. I’m just happy people like me a little :)

  23. Ah, thanks for the explanation! Sounds like something I want to work toward when I have my site up… :)

  24. Nice work, Pen Men. I can see the googlebots cruising through every blog on the web going “Oh yeah, there’s that James guy again.” Too bad links on blog comments are generally no-follow. Otherwise, the Pen Men would break the system. The google gods would have to sit around and think up a special number (like pi) for James. ;-)

  25. Hey that’s cool. Yeah I noticed my blog went from 3 to 4. It’s nice to see when you don’t really concentrate on something but yet you’re still having a positive effect.

Nice work and it’s been my pleasure coming here chatting.

  26. Congrats!

I agree with you – I don’t follow PR that much at all. I’ve seen low PR sites rank high in SERPs…and if you spend too much time analyzing it, you just end up a wee bit…ahem….batty. :)

    Enjoy, Barbara
