Men with Pens Moves Up a Notch with Google
Google is updating its Page Rank tool this weekend – and we’re cheering. We’ve shifted up to a PR5, one very cool milestone to achieve.
We don’t really care much about SEO here at the blog. We don’t focus on keywords and we don’t go crazy if our PR goes down. In fact, we ditched our PR 4 when we moved in February and started back at zero.
PR isn’t that important. But a PR5 is still a nice reward for our hard work.
We couldn’t make it this far without you, though, so we’d like to say thank you for supporting us and being part of our community. You guys make the difference – and without you, we wouldn’t be here.

I was on the phone with Google yelling at them about you guys for HOURS, trying to convince them how much you should be this “PR5″ thing, and they finally caved, but after I got off the phone I discovered that I had missed my bus and was late for work and consequently had been fired, so now we’re going to get kicked out of our rental and starve, but HEY.. you’re a PR5!

I’d like to also add that our gaming blog and forums, Capturing Fantasy and Escaping Reality each have a PR of 3 after only a few short months.
I don’t pay much attention to SEO either, but it still leaves a warm fuzzy feeling inside when you see that bit of green go up

As for what PR is, PR is a numerical way for Google to express how “important” they think a site is.
A blog earns a PR ranking by achieving incoming links from other websites. Links from sites with a PR 5 are “worth” more in the calculations than incoming links from PR 1 sites.
The fact that this blog has moved up to a PR 5 is totally AWESOME and a sign of the hard work that James does day in and day out!!! (I swear, I see him commenting EVERYWHERE I go!)
James Brown may be the hardest working man in showbiz, but James Chartrand may well be the hardest working blogger on the internet!!! Again, congrats!!!!

Well, the algorithms and calculations involve a little more than that, but yeah, inbound links are part of the math that Google uses. It’s not a linear process by any means.
And I suck in math. I’m just happy people like me a little

Nice work, Pen Men. I can see the googlebots cruising through every blog on the web going “Oh yeah, there’s that James guy again.” Too bad links on blog comments are generally no-follow. Otherwise, the Pen Men would break the system. The google gods would have to sit around and think up a special number (like pi) for James.

I agree with you – I don’t follow PR that much at all. I’ve seen low PR sites rank high in SERPs…and if you spend too much time analyzing it, you just end up a wee bit…ahem….batty.
