Moody Writing

Your mood will have a big effect on your writing. If you’re feeling happy and upbeat, the tone of your article will sound just as cheery. That’s great, so let the words flow and take advantage of your productive moment.

Bad moods are a different story, and the blues can put a stick in the wheels when writing. If you’re feeling angry or depressed, that’s going to show through in your tone and choice of words. You may not be using effective language to get your point across. Your article ends up reflecting your mood, and readers will notice that.

If you’re upset, irritated, sad, or just not up to writing, then don’t write. Writing isn’t about venting on paper. After all, someone is going to read that text. Do they really deserve a barrage of short, terse sentences, and something that sounds sharp?

Do yourself a favor and take a break. Get outside and go for a walk, even if it’s just around the block. Do something different. The break will do you some good, the exercise will help you feel better, and the outdoors does a fantastic job of changing a bad mood to a good one.
