Rumblings from the Inbox: Review of Copyblogger

This review isn’t going to be on a newsletter or ezine, but about Brian Clark’s blog, Copyblogger, a must-read for those interested in copywriting and Internet marketing. These two areas go hand in hand on the Internet, and Copyblogger delivers a whallop of good stuff for readers. I’m pleased to recommend it. Here’s why:

Most importantly to me, there isn’t any advertising or self-promotion to sift through. I can’t stand content that keeps telling me to buy now or else miss my chance at success and millions of dollars. The truth is that success comes from within. No one is going to hand me riches unless I work at earning them myself.

These guys know what they’re talking about, and they don’t feel the need to brag or boast. Their posts are straight-up, level-headed help or insight, and because of that, the whole blog shines.

The content provides value to both new writers and experienced ones. I take something away from every post I read. I learn something new or find my ideas going in inspired directions. Sometimes I nod and think, “Hm. Good point.” Sometimes I’m just reminded of things I’ve forgotten.

The well-written posts have a friendly tone with easy-to-read language. The level of expertise transmits clearly without requiring padding of big words with five syllables. Posts deliver their message, flow well and stay interesting. They deliver a punch of info with just the right length – not too long, not too short.

One peeve I have is that their email updates of new blog posts don’t have a clear, visible link that brings me straight to the post if I want to comment on it. That link is tucked way at the bottom of the email update, and it’s tiny. This isn’t Copyblogger’s fault; the problem is that I chose to receive updates via email and not through a feed. Still, it’s annoying.

Pros

§ Well-targeted audience

§ Helpful to readers with differing experience levels

§ Friendly, easy-to-read language

§ Content is good value, informative and expert

§ No blatant self-promotion

§ Attractive blog layout and design

Cons

  • Email updates lack clear link to the blog

Final Decision:

I love this blog. I get something from each post and look forward to new ones. I’m definitely keeping my subscription. It’s well worth it to take a look at Copyblogger’s content and subscribe to the feed or updates.
