Writing an E-book

There are a few considerations for creating a quality e-book that sells well and encourages sales. If you have a good product, you’ll sell more. Write an empty e-book that just fills pages with words, and you won’t sell many or have people come back to look for a second e-book. Here are tips about writing an e-book and crafting something that sells“ over and over:

  • E-books should provide something of value to the reader. You can have a ten-page guide or a 300-page fiction novel, but make sure the reader gets something out of your e-book. An e-book should entertain, educate, or provide advice. So many e-books out there are empty and devoid of quality information. They’re empty pages full of words that mean nothing. If you expect people to pay for your e-book, don’t cheat them of their money. Empty e-books bring the reputation of professional freelance writers down and leave readers customers feeling like they’ve been had.
  • Organize your e-book properly. Good organization keeps people reading. Create a structure for your e-book. Break text up with bullet points, headers, and small sections within chapters. Have chapters that flow well and logically from one to the next.
  • E-books should be interesting. Even a manual, user’s guide, or textbook can be captivating. Using creativity to make your e-book interesting is important. Bland, boring material means the reader will set the book down with a yawn. Keep readers happy with an e-book they enjoy, and they’ll come back for more. Better yet, they’ll refer your e-book to people they know, and you’ll have more sales.
  • Include a table of contents and an index in your e-book. Make sure no one has to leaf through the contents, getting frustrated because they can’t find the section they want.
  • By adding a foreword, a main page, and an afterword to your e-book, you’ll give your product a professional image. People will take your e-book seriously because it looks like it is well crafted and is complete.
  • Be proud and create a good product. Show you care more about the reader than slapping material together to make a fast buck. Writing is a serious profession and should give value to the reader, especially if you’re making people pay for your e-book. A good writer always strives to have quality copy.
