We’re moving. No, I’m serious; this is the real deal. We’re moving this week. On February 4, as a matter of fact. Our new domain is ready to launch, and we’re pretty excited. We’ve spent two months redesigning and overhauling our blog image, and it’s ready to launch. We’ve got a new theme and layout, we have a new look and brand (one that fits us better, I think), and we have all the quirks worked out so everything runs smoothly. It’s been quite the ride. If you’re thinking of moving your blog, I suggest

Are Your Internet Habits Skewing Your Sense of Time?
I have time issues. I’m not alone, either. No, I’m not talking about the ability to manage the available time I have. I’m talking about my sense of time and dealing with a lightening-speed virtual world and a much more sedate “real life” environment. If you’ve ever: Grown impatient that someone hasn’t answered your email in less than 5 hours Have to think twice about what day it is Look up from your keyboard only to realize two hours passed by… …then you have time issues, too. The sense of time is skewed in the

If you’re wondering where our beautiful site theme and all our gadgetry is, rest assured that we’re wondering, too. For some strange reason, Harry and I left our computers today and came back to find our whole theme splattered across the page like a shattered pumpkin on the sidewalk. We’re working on it; bear with us, and thank you for your patience and understanding.

We all want happy clients. We often extend ourselves beyond the limits of customer service to make sure clients get more than what they paid for. Sooner or later, though, you’re going to run into a few situations. You might meet the client from hell, you might finish a big project with a sigh of relief only to have the client come back with a new, improved and bigger project, or you might get a request for a job you really don’t want to take on. What’s the answer? Say no. Make a diplomatic retreat.

I needed a distraction, and fast. My toddler desperately wanted to cross the two-lane street to run up and down the ramp leading up to the bank, and it was minus 30 outside. Not counting the wind-chill factor. That’s Celcius, people. Quick thinker that I am, I ducked into the local magazine store, allowing my toddler to breeze up and down the aisle of glossy covers, grabbing headlines and attractive photos in search of large quantities of gummy bears and Dora the Explorer game cards. Since Dora doesn’t really turn my crank but magazines do,

Nothing is more fulfilling than having a reader say, “That post was great. I totally get it!” When I hear that compliment, I feel like I scored a touchdown at the Superbowl. The crowd cheers and I do my victory dance in the end zone. Writing is all about reaching your audience. You want to touch them, make them laugh or cry, or contemplate. Some of the best posts and books I’ve read made me take a step back to marvel at the way the writer took an ordinary event and gave it a unique

“Finally” doesn’t nearly come close to describing the sense of accomplishment (or relief) that I’m feeling, now that we’re in our new digs. Moving our site was a long, hard process that started two months ago. There were plenty of times James and I wondered if we should have launched the site earlier, only to tweak it along the way, but neither James nor I were willing to settle for less than perfect. We wanted everything to be just right for the new site launch, and I’m damn glad we waited. During the process of

“It is said the warrior’s is the twofold Way of pen and sword, and he should have a taste for both Ways. Even if a man has no natural ability he can be a warrior by sticking assiduously to both divisions of the Way”. – Miyamoto Musashi, The Book of Five Rings In the day of the samurai, warriors were more than just tough dudes slinging swords around. Part of a young warrior’s lessons included the learning about the written word as well as warfare. The pen and the sword were reserved for nobility. Many

Have you ever decided that you were going to take charge and make your business happen, come hell or high water? Well, sit back with a coffee, my friend. This story’s for you. Some years, the bitter cold of Quebec creates over two feet of solid surface. Drivers roll around on the ice roads of fishing villages or cross mile-wide rivers easily. Sports cars, pickups, cube trucks… anything goes. Other years, the weather is warmer and the icy highways don’t appear until late January or February. Ice fishers lament, and cars take the long way

When I was a kid, I loved tag. Tag came in second only to my ultimate favorite game of hide-and-seek. The challenge to find creative hiding places was just too much for a kid like me. But tag? I was fast, with long legs, and I loved running like a maniac to escape grasping fingertips. Except today, I’m not so fast and I got caught. Rebecca from Writers Roundabout tagged me to come up with Seven Procrastination Busters. (She just had to pick the topic I struggle with daily.) Without further ado, here are my
